Cancer they sympathize,
but can’t hear my cries.
Heart disease they sympathize,
but can’t see my cries.
Diabetes they sympathize.
but hide from my cries.
Even the flu they sympathize,
but are afraid of my cries.
My mental illness cries
they do not sympathize.
Instead they blame me,
bias and shame me
for having an illness I did not cause.
Mental illness survivors deserve much applause.
Accept, understand, and sympathize,
respect, support and empathize
our mental illness cries,
and we shall overcome, conquer and rise.
