In honor of Black History Month I wanted to share two poems. These poems are also very appropriate and important with the current state of affairs in our country, like the many black-face and other race-related controversies. I hope you like them.
A Rainbow of Races
A rainbow’s magnificence and beauty lessened with only one hue–
a lonely red arch without yellow, orange, green, violet and blue.
God’s dream is for unity of the rainbow of races–
combining vast multitude of skin color and faces.
Our world dull and bland if we were all the same.
Discrimination, stigma and hate–a colossal shame.
God intended the rainbow of races to integrate and blend,
made all His children equal from head to toe, beginning to end.
A rainbow would be incomplete just missing one arch,
as Martin Luther King without his Freedom March.
Only collectively can we accomplish great things,
needing each other and the knowledge it brings.
Diversity of race, culture and backgrounds is a gift we ought to share,
creating friendship, love and peaceful harmony everywhere.

Hate Cannot Radiate
Hate cannot radiate
when your heart is full of love.
Be more than the person that prays for others,
become the person that is the answer to their prayers.
Become the solution
and the resolution.
Let God’s love shine through you–
turning darkness into a brighter hue.
Hate cannot radiate,
contaminate,
negotiate
or dominate
when love is overflowing,
glowing and bestowing,
reflecting like a mirror
to everyone far and near,
spreading love and cheer
to the lives of many.
When there is hope, there is life.
When there is life, there is hope.
Hoping and coping,
forgiving and living,
thriving and surviving.
Pause for your applause,
for the beauty of your flaws
and the flaws of your beauty.
Pause for more applause–
your prayers have been answered
and you’re the answer to their prayers.
Hate cannot radiate
when your heart is full of love.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; ony love can do that.”
