Don’t Let Any More Lights Go Out

If your light is dim,

you must seek Him.

God is the light,

in the darkest night.

When someone’s light is fading,

never stop evading

the necessity of help they must get

before their light glows dimmer yet.

Don’t let any more lights go out,

we must save lives and shout,

suicide prevention

 needs our attention.

I love the song “One More Light” by Linkin Park and I have always loved Chester Bennington. I could relate to his pain and heard it clearly through the lyrics of his music and the passionate way he sang. Chester loved his fans and people.

Here are some of the lyrics from the song that sings of suicide and mental illness to me.

Should’ve stayed. Were there signs I ignored?
Can I help you not to hurt anymore?
We saw brilliance when the world was asleep.
There are things that we can have but can’t keep.

If they say,

Who cares if one more light goes out
In the sky of a million stars?
It flickers, flickers.
Who cares when someone’s time runs out
If a moment is all we are?
Or quicker, quicker.
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well, I do.

The reminders pull the floor from your feet.
In the kitchen one more chair than you need.
Oh.
And you’re angry, and you should be, it’s not fair.
Just ’cause you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

(The line above in bold is very true and important for people to understand about mental illness and suicide. People with mental illness, even people who are living with suicidal thoughts, hide their pain most of the time. It is something we have been forced to do many days of our lives. It becomes very exhausting to act alive and happy when you are dying on the inside, but we do it. I did. I guarantee that people I worked with had no idea how ill I had been for a very long time. I hid it well and have become a master of disguise and illusion, for many years of my life. So, even if someone is smiling and laughing on the outside, they may be crying and dying on the inside. Please pay close attention and just love everyone. We need to love, care, accept and understand each other more in this world, and maybe our world would be a better place for everyone.)

If they say,

Who cares if one more light goes out
In the sky of a million stars?
It flickers, flickers.
Who cares when someone’s time runs out
If a moment is all we are?
Or quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well, I do.

Who cares if one more light goes out
In the sky of a million stars?
It flickers, flickers.
Who cares when someone’s time runs out
If a moment is all we are?
Or quicker, quicker.
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well, I do.
Well, I do.

Well, I do too. I definitely care. We all need to care.

Please care and love and understand and have compassion for people with mental illness. It is very important. We all need that one person or many people in our lives who cares about us and loves us. Be that one person that cares and makes a difference in someone’s life or the lives of many people, and do it every day.

Make a difference. Be that difference. Make it happen and change for the better.

I hope you enjoy this song. I think it is very beautiful and sad at the same time, but I can relate very deeply to it. It has a lot of meaning behind it for me.

We cannot let one more light go out.

RIP Chester
